The Urban Deputy Commissioner V Shankar said that in this reclamation drive the biggest achievement was the saving of Kadugodi Plantation which is a large stretch of government land being eyed by the land sharks. Mr. V. Shankar spearheaded the demolition drive against encroachment as was directed by the Karnataka High Court.

The Kadugodi Plantation in Bengaluru East Taluk has been declared to be a forest land and was duly handed over to the forest department in the year 1989. The revenue records did not contain the details of its Khata or the mutation extract. The commissioner said that in the land situated in the tech corridor the encroachment of land is of the order of five acres. He said land worth of Rs. 7, 100  crore had been recovered. The residents of the area has been granted time to vacate the area by making alternative arrangements.

According to the commissioner’s statement, notice had been served to the two petrol pumps, one commercial complex, a temple and a few numbers of houses before starting the demolition work. The government had kept track of 222 sites totaling to 14.27 acres in HRBR Layout which was encroached in 1988- 1989.  Shankar said the government had issued notices to people who had bought land plots in this area. The district administration is waiting as the issue is with the government and will take a call after the government’s decision.

The district Administration earlier recovered land worth of Rs. 300 crore from Navajeevan Neelaya Trust which ran a private school and a girl’s hostel also instead of the scheduled rehabilitation centre for the leprosy patients which it was supposed to set up.

  1. Land reclaim is good but the government at least should think about the poor people and their family also those who are making business there. The people who are living for a long time should get a place for temporary for their immediate displacement.

I am not saying to through out unnecessary people or demolish their living place, I am just saying we can relocated them in a proper place. Also those people who encroaches government property should be punished by law.
